 FALSE CEILING
GYPSUM BOARD 

The false ceiling essentially consists of one or two layers of gypsum boards of 9.5/12.5 mm thicknesses fixed to metal/wooden frames, which in turn are suspended from the ceiling.

THE FALSE CEILING CAN BE USED:

  • To lower heights of Rooms
  • To form void for services
  • For fire protection
  • For Thermal & Acoustic Insulation.
  • APPLICATIONS :
    The system has applications in most types of buildings such as offices, Banks, Hospitals, Industries, Computer Rooms, Airports, Hotels etc.,

    TYPES :
    Broadly there are two types of systems. One is Flush Seamless, the other is exposed grid system. Both can be further classified as heavy duty and light duty.

  • EXPOSED GRID SYSTEM :
    Exposed grid system of false ceiling essentilally consists of suspended metal grids, (Aluminium or Precoated GI) with gypsum boards as infill panels.

  • SEAMLESS SYSTEM :
    The system consists of suspended metal grid work supporting one or two layers of gypsum board screwed to underside of the suspended grid. The joints are taped & filled to give seamless ceiling, which can be finished.


    INSTALLATION :

    • Perimeter channels are levelled & fixed at required position and fixed to wall at 610 mm centres.

                     INSTALLATION :

     
    • Ceiling angles are suspended at 1220mm centres from soffit cleats.
    • Intermediate channels are connected to ceiling channels at 1220mm centres.
    • Ceiling sections are fixed at 457mm centres at right angles to the underside of intermediate channels using connecting clips.
    • Gypsum boards are screw fixed to ceiling section & to perimeter channels at board ends.
    • Jointing & screw spottings are done as per manufacturer’s recommendation.
    • Desired finishing is given to the ceiling.


    FIXING :

    No attachments should be made to the gypsum board layer. Cutouts for light fittings, grilles, diffusers should be rimmed with GI angles which in turn are connected to gridwork.

    • Angles are levelled at required position & fixed along walls at 600mm centers
    • Main ‘T’ section is suspended from the soffit at 600mm centres with the help of soffit cleat rawl plug & 4 mm diameter GI wires.
    • Cross ‘T’ section snap fixed at main ‘T’ at 600/1200mm c/c. to form 600 X 600mm c/c or 600 X 1200mm c/c grids respectively.
    • Gypsum board panels are laid into the metal / PVC grids placed in position.

     

    CAUTION :
    No attachments should be made to the gypsum board panels.
