September 11 2001, will always remain etched in public memory as the day that changed America, changed its notions about war and peace, security, defence, human rights, economy and politics. The day war actually came home.

When built, at 110 floors, the twin towers were the tallest buildings in the world. Chicago's Sears Tower soon usurped the title in 1974, but the building stood as a Big Apple landmark. Situated on a 16 acre site, the Trade Center houses, apart from hundreds of offices, stores, restaurants and hotels, a daytime home to more than 50,000 workers.
